10-15' Man-made tornado
In
a stunt to defy gravity, Reel EFX built a 25' x 25' set,
elevated 20' in the air and set the action to rotate 90
degrees. Picture 20 stuntmen in chairs two stories
up as the platform they are on rotates. All ties flew
perpendicular to the stuntmen who were auctioning gravity.
The gravity defying sequence gave the appearance that everything
was being pulled toward gravity.

Featuring
"Crash
Test Dummies" in a desert setting. Reel
EFX fabricated these crash test dummies from manikins.
The heads rotated to watch the car pass by. Her torso
rotated. They could each raise or lower their
arms. She raised her arm to take a drink, he lowered his
arms, lowering the newspaper. Radio control.
A tornado
chaser, driving a Volvo (of course), plants an instrument
pod to measure vortex parameters. The superior handling
of the Volvo allows him to dodge an amazing array of obstacles:
falling trees, 50 foot boats, parts of houses, and of
course, our 40' tornado.
90 second spot for Volvo, U.K.

in the middle of a gunnery range. We created a simulated

Duracell
- "Fishing"
The Putterman
family goes fishing. We created a variety of mechanical
effects for this, including a power sled that goes from
0 to 30mph and back to 0 again in 20 feet.

Ivory
Soap
We created
a very smooth sheet of falling water which is penetrated
by a "hero" bar of soap. The hero prop was actually
made of urethane plastic so it wouldn't dissolve. The
water curtain is created by a stilling tank and weir.
Chevy
Lumina - Mirror
Chevy engineers
the Lumina so you don't have "7 years of bad luck".
Aired in Quebec, Canada. Using a crane we hoisted
mirror panels onto pre-welded frames. The
car really does drive through the mirror. For different
camera angles the shot was set up three times. (In the
dry,dry,dry lakebed)
SKIL
- Jumping Fish
A radio
remote controlled fish was launched by an air cannon out
of a pool of water through a hole. The hole was
cut using a Skil saber saw. Once launched the fish wiggled
in the air. He opened and closed his mouth and gills.

Our contribution
to this was a 100 mph dolly shot of a tennis ball being
served and returned. Look for the article in Cinefex,
